The Influence of Personal Assistant Service to people with severely disabilities on the Independent Living

Abstract
The purpose of this study was to examine the impact of personal assistance service provided to disabled people on their independent living in an effort to suggest some ways of improving their self-reliance. The subjects in this study were 183 people in North Gyeongsang Province. The findings of the study were as follows:
First, in order to boost the self-reliance of the disabled, they should be assisted to make the most use of personal assistance service once or more a day at least and as long as they want, Second, required budget should be prepared to secure professional personal assistants to ensure the success of the plan. And the position of disabled people should fully be taken into account when people eligible for the service are selected and when the length of service time is determined. Third, disabled users of personal assistance service should be helped to make the right choice of the service, to adjust the schedule of it and to build a friendly relationship with personal assistants.
